The Killer of 28-year-old Akhil Chopra was sentenced to life in prison in a Houston court on June 23.
Howard Dale Bellamy shot Chopra to death on Aug. 11, 2005, while he was meditating during lunch break at Joseph A. Fiorenza Park on Eldridge Road in southwest Houston. [more] |

WAVES 2008 sessions open in Florida this weekend
Over 300 scholars, students, professors, and other participants are expected to gather in Orlando, Florida, at the Seventh International Conference on Vedic Heritage for the Global Welfare of the Next Generation, from June 27 to 29.

Arun Venugopal wins MHA prize for radio reporting
Arun Venugopal of Houston has won a major award in journalism. Arun is the son of Dr.Venugopal and Devi Menon of Houston.
Mental Health America, “the country’s leading nonprofit dedicated to helping all people live mentally healthier lives,” presented its 2008 media awards on Saturday, June 7 at a luncheon as part of its Mental Health Promotion and Prevention Summit in Washington, D.C.
Among the winners was Venugopal with WNYC Radio (New York, NY).
